Hello, this is Hyundai Aesthetic Surgery. Today we would like to talk about Ultherapy, one of the most frequently asked-about lifting treatments in our consultations.
Ultherapy is a lifting device that uses micro-focused ultrasound. Much like a magnifying glass focusing sunlight onto a single point, it concentrates ultrasound energy at a chosen depth beneath the skin, creating tiny thermal coagulation points. As the tissue responds to this stimulus, it produces new collagen over several months, gradually creating a tightening effect. A distinctive feature is that the energy can reach the SMAS fascia — the layer addressed in surgical facelifts — without making any incision in the skin.
People usually come to us with concerns like these: a jawline that looks less defined than before, a double chin, brows or cheeks that have started to sag, or wanting to address sagging while feeling that surgery is too big a step. That said, when sagging is more advanced, a surgical lift may be more appropriate than an energy-based device, so the right direction should be confirmed through an in-person examination.
The treatment itself usually goes like this. Numbing cream is applied and left for about 30 minutes, then the practitioner checks the skin layers on the ultrasound image and delivers shots zone by zone. Depending on the area, it generally takes around 30 minutes to an hour. Because skin thickness and fat volume differ from area to area, planning which layer receives how much energy is an important part of the process.
Many patients ask when results appear. Some feel a subtle tightening right after the session, but the main change tends to emerge gradually over two to three months as collagen rebuilds. Duration is commonly said to be around a year, but it varies considerably with skin condition, age, and lifestyle. The timing of a follow-up session is also decided based on how your skin responds rather than a fixed formula.
A few frequently asked questions. Does it hurt? Some describe a deep, resonating sensation near the bone or a brief tingling; pain levels differ from person to person, and numbing cream or sedation can ease the discomfort. Is there downtime? Most people return to daily life the same day, though mild redness, subtle swelling, or a tender feeling can last a few days — recovery patterns also vary by individual.
At Hyundai Aesthetic Surgery, we first examine skin thickness, degree of sagging, and fat volume to determine whether Ultherapy is suitable for you — or whether another approach would serve you better. Feel free to ask anything through a consultation.
