One of the recent beauty concerns among women is firm, smooth skin without wrinkles.

Nasolabial folds around the mouth, wrinkles around the eyes, and forehead wrinkles are among the factors that can make a person look older. Procedures used to soften wrinkles include Botox, fillers, and autologous fat grafting.

Among these, autologous fat grafting is characterized by fewer side effects and a high level of safety because the procedure uses the patient’s own fat.

The fat to be grafted is usually harvested from unnecessary fat in areas such as the abdomen or thighs, then separated into microfat and injected. The amount of fat injected varies depending on the degree of hollowing, size, and treatment area. In addition to the forehead, it is used in various areas such as wrinkles, hollow cheeks, and under-eye aegyo-sal fullness.

In the past, silicone implants and collagen injections were commonly used. However, because these materials have properties different from one’s own skin tissue, they can cause side effects, so they are rarely used now.

In contrast, autologous fat grafting is performed using fat extracted from one’s own living tissue, so it does not cause a foreign-body reaction, leaves almost no scars after the procedure, and swelling does not last long.

After autologous fat grafting, care must be taken to avoid pressure on the grafted area, and cold compresses should be applied for about two days. A specialist advised, “Because fat grafting requires more delicate procedural skill than other treatments and carries a burden regarding the outcome, it is important to receive a thorough explanation of pre- and post-operative precautions during consultation with a specialist.”

In autologous fat grafting, about 30–40% of the grafted fat may be absorbed within 2–3 months, and because engraftment rates vary from person to person, two or more injection sessions are more effective. After the procedure, it is also helpful to manage post-surgical swelling with appropriate exercise and intake of pumpkin juice, beans, and seaweed, while facial massage and meridian massage should be avoided.
