Bulbous Nose Tip Surgery for a Sharper Line

Hello, this is Hyundai Aesthetic Surgery. Many patients considering their first rhinoplasty look into bulbous nose tip surgery because the nose tip makes the overall facial balance appear off. Likewise, many patients considering revision surgery look into bulbous nose tip surgery again because there was little improvement in the nose tip even after surgery. Today, we will take a closer look at rhinoplasty that refines a bulbous nose by bringing together the cartilage located at the nasal tip.

There are several surgical methods for correcting and improving a bulbous nose. Since bulbous noses can present in many different ways, such as a large bulbous nose, a small bulbous nose, a round and flat nose shape, or a wide and blunt nose shape, it is difficult to say that one specific surgical method is always the right fit. Improvement may also be limited with a single procedure alone. For this reason, various bulbous nose tip surgery methods may be performed together, such as alar base reduction, bulbous nose correction, alar lifting, and nasal tip cartilage suturing.

First, if you have wide nostril wings, improvement can be achieved through the commonly used method of alar base reduction. Alar base reduction is a surgery that corrects the width of the nostril wings and the size of the nostrils. Methods include an external incision technique, which makes an incision in the lower nasal skin; an internal incision technique, which makes an incision inside the nostril; and a non-incisional alar reduction method, in which tiny incisions are made and sutures are used. In cases with wide nostril wings, these procedures can reduce the size of the alae and create a more refined nasal tip.

Next are cases with drooping nostril wings. This refers to cases where the alae sit lower than the columella, meaning the nostril wings droop downward. If the alar skin is thick and droops downward, or even if the alae are asymmetrical, some improvement may be achieved through alar lifting surgery. Alar lifting is performed by removing skin inside the nostril and suturing it to lift the alae, allowing for a more natural and ideal nostril-wing shape after surgery while also improving the bulbous nasal tip.

Among bulbous nose tip surgery cases, patients with a low nose, a nose that spreads widely from side to side, or a broad, flat-looking nose may have experienced considerable stress. These cases can be improved through nasal tip cartilage suturing. It can also help in cases where the nose appears spread out when smiling. Nasal tip cartilage suturing is a surgical method that gathers and ties the nasal tip cartilage that has spread to both sides in order to create a sharper-looking nose. After surgery, the width of the nasal tip is made slimmer, so improvement of a bulbous nose can also be expected.

We have reviewed the different cases of bulbous nose tip surgery and the corresponding surgical methods. As you can see, it is important to identify which type of case your nose falls under. Rather than relying on your own judgment, receiving an accurate diagnosis from a specialist may be more helpful, so it is best to proceed with bulbous nose tip surgery after carefully considering the anatomical structure. Also, if you want a nose with a clearly noticeable before-and-after difference, we recommend consulting with several clinics, gathering opinions on which surgery would be appropriate, and making a careful decision. Thank you.
